A Quick Guide To FoSIM Food Premise Certification
A Food Safety Information System of Malaysia (FoSIM) food premise certificate or sijil perakuan premis makanan is a mandatory license for all food and drink operators in Malaysia.
In fact, a FoSIM certificate is often the first license most businesses in F&B or manufacturing must obtain, as it serves as a supporting document for all other license applications.

FoSIM food premise categories
FoSIM operates under the Ministry of Health who recognises four categories of food and drink businesses.
If your business falls under any of the categories below, you need FoSIM certification!

| P1 – Food Manufacturing | Factories producing snacks, drinks, quick-frozen foods, canned foods, and sauces |
| P2 – Catering & Mass Catering | Wedding caterers, event catering companies, party catering services, and corporate or workplace meal providers |
| P3 – Restaurants and Cafes | Restaurants, cafes, school canteens, hotel buffets, and other dine-in food establishments |
| P4 – Mobile Food Trucks & Vending Machines | Food trucks, mobile food stalls, and food or beverage vending machines |
Additionally, a single premise can register under multiple categories depending on activities, and for businesses with multiple premises, each location must be registered separately under the parent.
Requirements & fees
As of August 2026, there is no fee to register a food premise under FoSIM, and the only requirements are a copy of the MyKad / passport of the premise owner and the business SSM registration certificates.
Note: If the business already has a PBT license, that can be attached as well, but is not mandatory, and generally it is the FoSIM certificate that is used to apply for a PBT license!
Application steps
Applications and renewals are done 100% online through the FoSIM portal, and new applicants must first register an account and fill in business and user / owner information.
Once registered, navigate to the premise registration page below and follow instructions to provide business, owner, and premise details.
Once done, you will be shown a summary of your premise details and asked to confirm. If everything looks good click to confirm and you will be shown the following message.
Congratulations, you’re all set and can now print your FoSIM premise certificate.
Validity period & renewals
Once granted, a FoSIM food premise certificate is generally valid for three years, should be renewed at least 30 days before expiry, and renewals are also handled online through the user’s FoSIM account.
