PPK G1 - G7 Registration

G1 Contractor

Allows work on contracts worth up to RM200,000.

Requirements:

  • Paid-up capital of RM5,000 / RM10,000 for an SPKK certificate
  • Employ one Technical Certificate holder
  • Minimum 10 CCD points annually for license renewal

*The more CCD points earned, the longer the PPK certificate can be renewed for.

G2 Contractor

Allows work on contracts worth up to RM500,000.

Requirements:

  • Paid-up capital of RM25,000
  • Employ one Technical Certificate holder
  • Minimum 10 CCD points annually for license renewal

*The more CCD points earned, the longer the PPK certificate can be renewed for.

G3 Contractor

Allows work on contracts worth up to RM1,000,000.

Requirements:

  • Paid-up capital of RM50,000
  • Employ one Technical Certificate holder
  • Minimum 20 CCD points annually for license renewal

G4 Contractor

Allows work on contracts worth up to RM3,000,000.

Requirements:

  • Paid-up capital of RM150,000
  • Employ one Diploma holder
  • Minimum 20 CCD points annually for license renewal

*The more CCD points earned, the longer the PPK certificate can be renewed for.

G5 Contractor

Allows work on contracts worth up to RM5,000,000.

Requirements:

  • Paid-up capital of RM250,000
  • Employ one Diploma holder with min 5 years' experience, OR
  • Employ one Degree holder with min 1 year experience
  • Minimum 30 CCD points annually for license renewal

*The more CCD points earned, the longer the PPK certificate can be renewed for.

G6 Contractor

Allows work on contracts worth up to RM10,000,000.

Requirements:

  • Paid-up capital of RM500,000
  • Employ one Diploma AND Degree holder, one with min 3 years experience
  • Minimum 40 CCD points annually for license renewal

G7 Contractor

Allows work on contracts with no upper limit in value.

Requirements:

  • Paid-up capital of RM750,000
  • Employ two Degree holders, one with min 5 years' experience, OR
  • Employ one Diploma AND Degree holder, both with min 5 years experience
  • Minimum 40 CCD points annually for license renewal

SPKK Registration

A Government Work Procurement Certificate allows registered contractors to apply for government projects within their grade contract value. In addition to a valid PPK Certificate, applicants must meet these conditions:

  • meet their PPK paid up capital requirement
  • valid minimum SCORE certification
  • for G7 contractors, have ISO 9001:2008/2015 certification.
  • comply with equity ownership conditions

Bumiputera Status (STB)

Bumiputera contractors with PPK and SPKK can apply for an additional Bumiputera Status Certificate (Sijil Taraf Bumiputera) to bid on projects reserved for Bumiputera businesses.

Key requirements:

  • G1: 100% Bumiputera ownership across shares, shareholders, and partners
  • G2–G7: Minimum 51% Bumiputera ownership and control
  • Pass a premise inspection by CIDB officers

CIDB Grade Change

Contractors can apply for any upward or downward grade change if they meet the requirements of the grade being applied for (see our guide to CIDB grades).

If there are fewer than 120 days remaining on the current CIDB license, the contractor can combine a grade change request with their renewal application.

Renewals

PPK registrations can be renewed up to 120 days before their expiration date, and requirements are as follows:

  • meet paid up capital and personnel requirements
  • have proof of sufficient CCD points in one year period, and
  • be free from disciplinary actions

FAQs

What CIDB license do contractors need?

All contractors must obtain the Perakuan Pendaftaran Kontraktor (PPK) to legally carry out construction work in Malaysia.

They are graded from G1 to G7, which determines the maximum project value they can undertake (from RM200,000 to unlimited).

What are the main CIDB registration requirements?

You’ll need to meet these key criteria:

  • Applicant must be a director / owner
  • Registered business entity (Sdn Bhd, LLP, or Enterprise)
  • Minimum paid-up capital (based on grade)
  • Qualified Malaysian technical personnel
  • Meet CCD points (for renewal)
What is the minimum paid-up capital required?
  • G1: RM5,000 (RM10,000 with SPKK)
  • G2: RM25,000
  • G3: RM50,000

Can CIDB applications be done online?

Yes. All applications are submitted via the CIDB CIMS portal .

What documents are required for CIDB registration?

Typical documents include:

  • Academic certificates (technical personnel)
  • Company registration documents (SSM / LLP / ROS)
  • Financial statements / annual returns
  • Director and company information
  • Supporting certificates (if applicable)
How much does CIDB registration cost?

A one-time application fee of RM50 and annual license fee of RM20 – RM1,400 depending on PPK grade.

What are SPKK and STB?
  • SPKK (Government Work Certificate): Required to bid for government projects
  • STB (Bumiputera Certificate): Allows access to Bumiputera-only tenders
How long does CIDB registration take?

Theoretically ~7 working days is possible assuming complete documents and no issues.

In reality it tends to take much longer due to authority backlogs.

Do foreign contractors need CIDB registration?

Yes. Foreign companies must obtain the Foreign Contractor Registration Certificate before undertaking any project in Malaysia.

What are the key requirements for foreign contractors?
  • Register a Malaysian entity (Sdn Bhd or LLP / branch)
  • Minimum RM750,000 paid-up capital
  • Employ at least 2 Malaysian technical personnel
  • Must have a project offer/contract
What are the requirements for renewal?

To renew, you must:

  • Meet paid-up capital & personnel requirements (based on grade)
  • Have sufficient CCD points
  • Have no disciplinary issues with CIDB

First-time renewals will also need: 

  • Integrity & Code of Ethics certificate
  • Business Management Competency (SKP)
  • Additional competency certifications (depending on category)
How long can I renew my license for?

You can renew for 1 to 3 years, depending on CCD points accumulated in the past 12 month period.

How much does CIDB renewal cost?

A processing fee of RM30 and 50% of your original annual license fee for renewal. 

Can SPKK and STB be renewed together?

Yes. If you already have SPKK or STB, you can renew them at the same time at no extra cost.

How long does CIDB renewal take?
  • Processing: ~2 working days
  • Payment deadline after approval: 14 days
