A Guide To MBIP Business License Applications
If you’re looking to set up a business in Iskandar Puteri, our guide provides an overview of business license applications from Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri (MBIPI), the Local Authority for the area.

Here’s how we’ve broken it down:
- What an MBI I ‘business license’ includes
- Required documents
- License fees and validity periods
- Where to apply, and
- A pitch to let us handle your application!
Let’s begin.
What is an ‘MBIP business license’?
A valid business license from MBIP consists of two licenses:
- Premise license
- Signboard license
MBIP allows both licenses to be applied for together under a composite license application, which also allows more than three business activities under one premise.
A successful license application requires a business to meet MBIP’s premise and signboard requirements.
Required documents
All license applications must include the following documents:
- Copy of MyKad / Passport
- Business Registration Documents
- Copy of lease agreement
- Copy of location plan
- Coloured photos of premise exterior and interior
- Signboard design certified by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka
- Building plan approval letter, and
- Certificate of Fitness
Certain types of businesses must include additional documents, the full list of which can be found here.
License fees and validity period
There are two fees:
- Processing fee of RM20 upon application submission
- License fee payable upon application approval
License fees depend on activity and premise size and you can estimate how much yours will cost by referring to MBIP’s list of charges.
Though you can offer to pay for three year licenses, the most common validity period is one year, which must be renewed before 31st December of the year the license is issued.
Where to submit your application
Applications can be submitted in person at the MBIP Licensing Department with relevant forms and documents:

And that’s pretty much all you need to know for now!
Pre-application checklist
For a smooth license application, ensure you’ve done the following five things:
- Registered an SSM Enterprise or Sdn Bhd
- Found a suitable premise
- Secured the right supporting documents
- Designed a signboard that complies with MPIP guidelines, and
- Prepared floor plans and take photos of your premises
