A Quick Guide To MM2H Gold Passes

In our opinion, the Gold category of the revised Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program offers the best value when considering the minimum requirements and benefits offered.

By the end of this guide, you’ll learn:

  • requirements of a Gold MM2H Pass
  • its features and benefits, as well as
  • how the application process works

Let’s begin.

Comparison with other categories

The table below shows how the Gold Pass compares to the the other categories:

FeaturePlatinumGoldSilver
Fixed DepositUSD 1 millionUSD500,000USD150,000
Participation FeeRM200,000RM3,000RM1,000
Residence PurchaseRM2 millionRM1 millionRM600,000
Validity Period20 years15 years5 years
Do BusinessAllowedNot allowedNot allowed
WorkAllowedNot allowedNot allowed
Hire Foreign MaidAllowedNot allowedNot allowed

Here’s the two biggest takeaways for us:

  • The Gold Pass has a much higher validity period than the Silver for a slightly pricier participation fee.
  • The Platinum Pass, meanwhile, has a 20 year validity period, but a much higher participation fee.

The main benefit of the Gold Pass is that it offers the best value on a cost-per-year basis.

Yes. a Platinum Pass grants freedom to work and do business, but even that can be secured by a Gold Pass holder with additional visas.

And if you’re a retiree or crypto bro who won’t need to work another day in your life, why bother!

Application steps and wait time

The MM2H program is regulated by the Malaysian government and applications must be done via approved agents

The process typically takes around two to three months and consists of the following steps:

  1. Consultation: Meet an agent to discuss your needs.
  2. Agreement & Downpayment: Confirm your package, sign an agreement, and pay ~20% as a deposit.
  3. Document Preparation (1-2 months): Prepare, notarize, and certify necessary documents.
  4. Submission & Approval (2-3 months): The agent submits documents, and MOTAC reviews them.
  5. Conditional Approval: Pay the balance upon receiving the approval letter.
  6. Enter Malaysia: Within 3 months, complete a medical check-up, open a bank account, and secure insurance.
  7. Visa Endorsement: Obtain the MM2H visa. If buying property, a one-year visa is issued first, with 12 months to complete the purchase and receive the full pass.

  2. Copy of principal dependent’s passport
  3. 4 copies of recent passport-size photos with blue background
