A Full List Of CIDB Specialisation Categories For Contractors

A Full List Of CIDB Specialisation Categories For Contractors

While CIDB grades determine the upper value of a project contractors can undertake, CIDB categories and specialisations limit the types of projects they qualify for.

electrical box to show example of CIDB construction specialisation code and category
One does not simply start fiddling with wiring.

In total, CIDB has 132 codes representing a different construction specialty under five main categories, and while contractors are free to add new categories and codes, it should be based on:

  • their ability to meet eligibility criteria, and
  • the type of construction projects they want

To help, we’ve presented the full list of codes from CIDB’s below in a user-friendly format – check the table of contents and jump to desired codes and back at the click of a mouse!

And for the ones short on time, skip the browsing and get in touch!

Otherwise, let’s begin.

Table of Contents

How our CIDB specialisation list works

All CIDB specialisation codes belong to one of five main categories:

  • Building Construction (B) has 29
  • Civil Engineering (CE) has 43
  • Mechanical (ME) has 23
  • Electrical (E) has 35
  • Facilities (F) has just 2

Below, each category has its own section and each code under it has a description and list of requirements.

Unless you really like scrolling, we recommend using our Table of Contents as an anchor point to quickly skip to categories and codes relevant to your specialisation.
