Guide To CIDB G6 applications and renewals in malaysia

A 30 Second Guide To CIDB G6 Requirements

As we wrote this (May 2025), we checked CIDB’s database of registered contractors and unsurprisingly, there were:

  • 10,210 G7 contractors
  • 7,506 G5 contractors, and
  • only 1,965 G6 contractors!

This pretty much confirms our suspicions: G6 is the least popular CIDB grade!

Womp womp womp.

Paid-up capital is what usually determines CIDB grades and contractors with G6 money often also have G7 money–the only reason not to go for the top grade is if they can’t meet the non-financial requirements.

If you can’t be G7, maybe you can still be G6, and our guide answers just that as we cover:

  • minimum requirements
  • required documents
  • registration steps and fees, and
  • license renewal

Let’s begin.

Minimum requirements

There are three main requirements to be a G6 contractor:

  • paid-up capital of RM500,000
  • employ one Diploma holder AND one Degree holder, one of whom must have at least 3 years of experience
  • earn 30 CCD points annually for license renewal

Required documents

  • Academic certificates
  • FM resume if applying for category F
  • Certificate of Registration for Competent Persons (if available)
  • Certificate of Agency Registration
  • Annual Return (if the application is from a limited company)
  • Annual Return of the company holding shares in the company
  • Current Financial Statement if application is from a business registered under ROB / PLT / ROS
  • Partnership Agreement if application is from a partnership
  • Company Information, E-InfoSSM services for LLP
  • Registration of Societies/Associations (ROS)
  • List of company directors for Sdn Bhds

Registration steps and fees

CIDB license applications should be made via CIDB’s CIMS portal

First time visitors need to create an account – and it must be by a company director or owner!

Once you’ve created your account, applying for the license is a simple four-step process:

  1. Choose G6 as your intended grade
  2. Upload necessary documents
  3. Pay RM50 application fee
  4. Pay RM1,000 annual fee once approved

If all documents are in order, CIDB applications are usually processed within seven working days.

The license can later be renewed for up to three years, depending on CCD points earned.

And once you’re done, you might want to apply for these additional licenses:

  1. SPKK Certificate to bid on government construction projects
  2. STB Certificate to bid on Bumiputera-only construction projects, and
  3. CIDB Green Cards for any on-site staff members

And that’s all!
